I am an artist living the East Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago. I create using paint (oil or watercolor,) photography (digital or film,) and multimedia. My works have strong compositional forces, some more intricate than others; while most of the works are simple at first glance, closer inspection reveals a deeper complexity.

I believe in the language of painting. In my paintings I use forms drawn from nature and the human body to interact with powerful colors. My faith and my connection with nature are two themes which I regularly explore with painting. I title the works to indicate the emotional atmosphere that is invoked in me when I view them.

Photography, for me, is an act of sharing my life with my audience. The images I capture come from daily events; I take these pictures when I walk my dog, at my daughter’s ballet classes, and at family events. I love to capture the defining moment of an experience, and I love that the camera allows me to share how I saw those moments.

I often refer to myself as an “image junkie” because I am a passionate collector, visually speaking, and this has led to an abundance of images in my studio and my head. Over the past year I have begun to create collage boxes using these images. Many of the boxes use multiple floating images of a common theme to create dream-like scenes. This process has opened an exciting new method with which I can communicate by blending my painter’s eye for composition with my photographer’s ability to capture a fleeting moment.

Without Art, the crudeness of reality would make the world unbearable.
